App Store Screenshot Localization: A Market-by-Market Workflow

Prioritize markets from your own product data, translate the meaning rather than just the words, and review every locale on its final canvas.

Localize for a Market, Not a Language List

A useful localization workflow starts with audience evidence and ends with a reviewed, store-ready asset set. It does not promise a universal conversion lift.

Choose Priority Markets from Evidence

Use existing downloads, product availability, revenue model, support capacity, acquisition plans, and customer research. Spanish for Spain and Spanish for Mexico, or Portuguese for Brazil and Portugal, may need different terminology and examples even when the language is shared.

Translate the Product Promise

Give the translator context: audience, feature shown, character constraints, tone, protected brand terms, and the action the screenshot should communicate. Literal translation can preserve words while losing the product meaning.

Review More Than Text

Terminology

Use the words customers and the product UI use in that locale.

Layout

Check wrapping, safe areas, text expansion, font coverage, and right-to-left flow.

Examples

Adapt names, dates, units, currencies, addresses, and sample content when relevant.

Claims

Verify prices, awards, ratings, and availability for the target storefront.

Screen content

Localize the app UI shown in the screenshot when a mismatched language would confuse the viewer.

Gallery order

A market may need a different opening benefit, not just translated captions.

Production Workflow

1

Create the source message map

Give every frame a purpose before translation begins.

2

Generate a draft

Use a translator or automatic draft, keeping all locale copy editable.

3

Get fluent review

Review important markets for meaning, tone, product terms, and claims.

4

Inspect every target

Open each locale on every selected phone and tablet canvas.

5

Export and archive

Keep files grouped by storefront, locale, display class, and screen order.

Measure Without Overclaiming

A localized set can make the page easier for a market to understand, but the result depends on the app, traffic, offer, and creative. Record a baseline and use a controlled store experiment where available. Do not apply a vendor case-study percentage as a forecast.

Localize One Editable Project

Manage regional variants such as Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico), Portuguese (Brazil), and Portuguese (Portugal), then batch export reviewed assets.
