App Store Screenshot Sizes in 2026: The Complete Guide

Every iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch screenshot size you need for App Store Connect in 2026. Which sizes are required, which auto-scale, and how to avoid rejections.

Required iPhone Screenshot Sizes

As of 2026, Apple requires screenshots for these iPhone device sizes in App Store Connect:

  • iPhone 6.9" (iPhone Air / 17 Pro Max / 16 Pro Max / 16 Plus): 1320 x 2868px (portrait) or 2868 x 1320px (landscape) — REQUIRED for all new submissions
  • iPhone 6.7" (iPhone 15 Pro Max / 14 Pro Max / 13 Pro Max): 1290 x 2796px (portrait) or 2796 x 1290px (landscape) — optional, Apple auto-scales from 6.9"
  • iPhone 6.5" (iPhone 14 Plus / 13 Pro Max / 12 Pro Max): 1284 x 2778px (portrait) or 2778 x 1284px (landscape) — optional, auto-scaled from 6.9"
  • iPhone 6.3" (iPhone 17 Pro / 17 / 16 Pro / 16): 1206 x 2622px (portrait) or 2622 x 1206px (landscape) — optional, auto-scaled from 6.9"
  • iPhone 6.1" (iPhone 17e / 16e / 14 / 13 / 12): 1170 x 2532px (portrait) or 2532 x 1170px (landscape) — optional, auto-scaled from 6.9"
  • iPhone 5.5" (iPhone 8 Plus / 7 Plus / 6s Plus): 1242 x 2208px (portrait) or 2208 x 1242px (landscape) — optional, auto-scaled from 6.9"

Note: Apple may update required sizes with new device releases. Always verify current requirements in App Store Connect Help before submitting.

The 6.9" size is the only strictly required size for new submissions. Apple auto-scales it down to fill every smaller iPhone class. If you only upload one set, upload 6.9". However, if you want pixel-perfect text on smaller devices (especially 5.5"), upload those sizes separately.

Required iPad Screenshot Sizes

If your app supports iPad, you need these sizes:

  • iPad 13" (iPad Pro 13-inch M4): 2064 x 2752px (portrait) or 2752 x 2064px (landscape)
  • iPad 12.9" (iPad Pro 12.9-inch): 2048 x 2732px (portrait) or 2732 x 2048px (landscape)
  • iPad 11" (iPad Pro 11-inch / iPad Air 11-inch): 1668 x 2388px (portrait) or 2388 x 1668px (landscape)
  • iPad 10.9" (iPad 10th gen): 1640 x 2360px (portrait) or 2360 x 1640px (landscape)
  • iPad 10.2" (iPad 9th gen / 10th gen): 1620 x 2160px (portrait) or 2160 x 1620px (landscape)
  • iPad mini 8.3" (iPad mini 6th gen): 1488 x 2266px (portrait) or 2266 x 1488px (landscape)

If your app is iPhone-only, you don't need iPad screenshots. Check your Xcode target settings: if 'Targeted Device Family' includes iPad, you need iPad screenshots.

Apple Watch Screenshot Sizes

If your app has an Apple Watch component:

  • Apple Watch 49mm (Ultra 2): 1032 x 1140px
  • Apple Watch 45mm (Series 9 / 10): 984 x 1098px
  • Apple Watch 41mm (Series 9 / 10): 896 x 996px

Apple Watch screenshots are optional but recommended if your app has a meaningful Watch interface.

Which Sizes Auto-Scale?

Apple auto-scales the 6.9" set down to fill every smaller iPhone class (6.7", 6.5", 6.3", 6.1", 5.5", 4.7", and even 4.0"/3.5" for older devices). This means:

  • If you upload only 6.9" screenshots, Apple covers the entire iPhone fleet by scaling down.
  • Apple does NOT auto-scale up. If you skip 6.9" and only upload 6.7", Apple cannot scale it up to 6.9" — you must provide 6.9" explicitly.
  • iPad screenshots do not auto-scale between iPad sizes. Provide each iPad size explicitly.

When to upload sizes beyond 6.9":

  • Pixel-perfect text: if your captions look blurry when scaled down to 5.5", upload a 5.5" set separately with adjusted text sizing.
  • Device-specific imagery: if you show device-specific UI (e.g., Dynamic Island vs. notch), upload separate sets.

Best practice for most developers: upload 6.9" for iPhone and 13" for iPad. This covers the entire fleet. Only add more sizes if you notice quality issues on specific devices.

Screenshot Format Requirements

Technical requirements for all screenshots:

  • Format: PNG or JPEG (PNG preferred for quality)
  • Color space: RGB (no CMYK)
  • DPI: 72
  • No transparency/alpha channel (Apple rejects transparent PNGs)
  • No borders or watermarks
  • File size: reasonable (under 5MB per screenshot)
  • Orientation: portrait or landscape, must match the device
  • Content: must show real app UI, not illustrations or mockups
  • Device frames: Apple devices only (no Android devices in App Store screenshots)
  • Text: captions are allowed but must be informational, not promotional

The most common rejection cause is wrong sizes. The second most common is transparency in PNGs. Always export as opaque PNG.

How to Export All Sizes Efficiently

Manually resizing screenshots for multiple device sizes is tedious and error-prone. Here's the efficient workflow:

  1. 1.Design your screenshot once at the largest size (6.9" for iPhone)
  2. 2.Use a screenshot generator that supports batch export
  3. 3.Select all required device sizes
  4. 4.Export as a ZIP with all sizes in one download
  5. 5.Upload each size to the corresponding slot in App Store Connect

This takes under a minute vs. hours of manual resizing in Photoshop. The key is designing once and letting the tool scale to each size.

Tips for multi-size design:

  • Design at the largest size first: scaling down preserves quality; scaling up degrades it
  • Check caption readability at the smallest size (5.5"): text that's fine at 6.9" may be too small at 5.5"
  • Use the same design across all sizes: Apple accepts identical designs across device families
  • Keep captions short (3-5 words): longer captions become unreadable at smaller sizes
  • Test the thumbnail view: your first screenshot appears at thumbnail size in search results

Google Play Screenshot Sizes (For Comparison)

If you're also publishing on Google Play, the requirements differ:

  • Minimum: 320px on the shortest side
  • Maximum: 3840px on the longest side
  • Aspect ratio: 16:9 or 9:16 (portrait/landscape)
  • Format: PNG or JPEG
  • 2-8 screenshots required
  • No specific device sizes required (Play Store scales automatically)

Google Play is more flexible than App Store on sizes, but you still need high-quality screenshots. The same design can work for both stores with minor adjustments.
