Google Play Screenshot Guidelines Explained (2026)

Google Play's screenshot guidelines are more flexible than Apple's, but there are still rules to follow. Here's the complete guide.

Technical Requirements

Google Play's technical requirements:

  • Format: JPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha/transparency)
  • Min dimension: 320px
  • Max dimension: 3840px
  • Aspect ratio: 16:9 or 9:16
  • Min screenshots: 2
  • Max screenshots: 8
  • Both phone and tablet screenshots recommended
  • No file size limit (but keep reasonable)

Google Play is more lenient than App Store on resolution. Any size within the range is accepted.

Content Guidelines

Google Play's content rules:

  • Must accurately represent the app
  • No misleading content or false claims
  • No pricing information in screenshots
  • No promotional text (captions are allowed if informational)
  • No Google or Android trademarks without permission
  • No device-specific branding that implies endorsement
  • No user testimonials in screenshots
  • No content that violates Google Play policies

Google Play is generally more lenient than App Store, but misleading screenshots can result in app suspension.
